Os Bafta são prémios entregue anualmente aos melhores trabalhos realizados em cinema, televisão e outros audio-visuais pela British Academy of Film and television Arts. Consite numa academia modesta criada em 1047, em Londres, por grandes nomes da industria cinematográfica britânica tendo sido presidida pela primeira vez por David Lean, realizador. O objectivo principal desta academia seria para reconhecer os profissionais que contribuiram com a sua criatividade para o desenvolvimento das Artes na Grã-Bretanha.
Os participantes desta Academia são os expoentes de cinema, televisão e jogos para PC, albergando os melhores profissionais destas categorias não só do Reino Unido como também de outros países. Nos últimos anos o número de membros tem aumentado consideravelmente (cerca de 6500 actualmente) demonstrando o seu carácter sério e democrático.
